The Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the discovery of a woman's body that was left in front of the home of the mayor of Quinta Normal.

It was the neighbors of the mayor of Quinta Normal, socialist Karina Delfino, a commune in the Metropolitan Region located west of Santiago, who alerted municipal sanitation officials this weekend that a large cardboard box wrapped in plastic had been abandoned in front of the mayor's house, emitting a foul odor. When they arrived at the scene, they found the bound body of a woman inside, which also showed signs of torture, according to TVN, the public television channel. The discovery prompted an immediate call to the Investigative Police (PDI) and the Organized Crime and Homicide Team (ECOH), a specialized unit of the Chilean Public Prosecutor's Office that has been operating since November 2023 and was promoted by the Public Ministry in response to the security crisis facing Chile following the emergence of a new type of crime. Investigations are now underway into both the circumstances of the murder—the victim has already been identified—and the reasons why the body was left in front of the home of Delfino, a mayor who, unlike six other mayors in the Metropolitan Region and one who has already left office, has said that neither she nor her team have received threats.
