Woman in serious condition after being dragged during attempted carjacking: two teenagers arrested
The assault took place in Lo Espejo, and after a controlled chase, the armed criminals were arrested in Cerrillos. A 28-year-old woman is in serious condition after being the victim of an attempted robbery in Lo Espejo, in the Metropolitan Region. When she resisted, the victim was dragged and held in her own vehicle while two 15-year-old criminals fled from the police. Finally, both were arrested and the young woman was taken to a medical center. The incident began around 11:00 p.m. when a pedestrian alerted Gil de Castro police patrol personnel to a violent robbery. The woman had been intercepted at a traffic light by two thieves, who threatened her with a weapon and got into the car, then fled. “The injuries she sustained are of a confidential nature,” said prosecutor Paula González of the Flagrancy Prosecutor's Office, Southern Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office. “She resisted and was dragged by the individuals,” she added. “Upon noticing this situation, a controlled pursuit began, and they confirmed that two individuals had indeed stolen a vehicle and were carrying the victim inside,” explained Captain Juan Pablo Garrido, patrol officer for the Santiago Rinconada Prefecture. The chase continued along Avenida Central and Américo Vespucio. At the intersection of Gil de Castro and Valenzuela Llano, police officers warn that “the guys try to throw the victim out of the vehicle,” said the captain. “They brandish a weapon and the police proceed to use their service weapon, firing two shots, which hit the driver's door, yet (the thieves) do not desist, continuing their escape,” he added. Finally, the minors were arrested on Lonquén Road at the Vespucio Sur slip road in Cerrillos. “A weapon was seized, a pistol, which was sent for examination to verify its condition and whether it was ready for use,” explained the authority. “Both have police records, but nothing current,” he said about their history. The mayor of Cerrillos, Johnny Yáñez, highlighted the coordination between municipalities and police action. “We sent a message to the authorities that the issue of the age of these young people needs to be reviewed, because it is a constant problem. They are very daring, underage youths who are committing assaults and carjackings,” said the community leader. OS9 and Labocar personnel from the Carabineros are conducting the initial investigations.
