Tribute to the “Peruvian pope”: statue of Leo XIV installed at the entrance to Chiclayo

Chiclayo continues to celebrate the election of Father Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV, now with the installation of an imposing 5-meter-high statue at the entrance to the capital of Lambayeque. The work was carried out by artist Juan Carlos Ñañake and his team of five people, who worked on this piece for four months. The monument to the “Peruvian pope” was made of fiberglass and weighs half a ton. Inside, it has a zinc-coated iron structure to give it stability. The image of Prevost is located on a 2-meter pedestal built at the intersection of Víctor R. Haya de la Torre Avenue and the Evitamiento Highway. "The work began last July, with sketches and coordination of the clothing that the statue would wear. Subsequently, the clay model was made and completed this week. We worked as a team of six people," renowned Lambayeque artist Juan Carlos Ñañake told La República. The sculpture will be unveiled in November. Although the statue can be viewed and photographed freely by the public, its official unveiling will take place on the afternoon of Thursday, November 13, during a mass and ceremony that is expected to be attended by the President of the Republic, José Jerí, and some of his ministers of state.
