Drivers traveling through Huachipa will need to take alternate routes starting this Monday, August 31, due to the start of construction on the new La Capitana Bridge in the district of Lurigancho-Chosica. The Municipal Agency for Strategic Projects (EMAPE) will carry out the project, which aims to improve vehicular and pedestrian access across the Huaycoloro Creek. The project involves an investment of more than S 25.7 million and will take 180 calendar days to complete. The new infrastructure will replace the Bailey bridge that was installed on La Capitana Avenue in 2017. According to EMAPE, on the first day, the detour plan will begin at 11:00 a.m. to minimize the impact on traffic during rush hour. The agency recommended that drivers plan their trips in advance, obey temporary signage, and follow the instructions of traffic control personnel. “What routes should drivers use?” Vehicles traveling between the Carretera Central, Chaclacayo, and Cajamarquilla will need to use different routes while the work is underway. From the Carretera Central or Chaclacayo toward Cajamarquilla: Drivers should take La Capitana Avenue, turn left onto S N Street, and continue along Las Torres, Quinta, and Los Laureles avenues. They should then continue along 1st Avenue until they return to La Capitana Avenue. From Lima to Cajamarquilla: The alternate route will be via the Ramiro Prialé Expressway. From there, vehicles should turn onto Los Laureles Avenue and continue along 1st Avenue until reaching La Capitana. From Cajamarquilla to Lima: Drivers should take La Capitana Avenue and continue along 1st Avenue and Los Laureles Avenue until they reach the Ramiro Prialé Expressway, from where they can continue toward Lima. What will the new La Capitana Bridge be like? The new bridge will be 50 meters long and 15.90 meters wide. It will have two lanes, each 3.60 meters wide, and 1.80-meter-wide sidewalks to facilitate pedestrian traffic. The bridge will be constructed with a metal arch structure and a reinforced concrete deck slab. Its foundation will be deep and consist of piles 1.20 meters in diameter and 18 meters long. The work includes dismantling the existing structures, constructing the foundation, abutments, and parapets, as well as manufacturing and assembling the steel structure. In a later phase, the deck slab and sidewalks will be installed, the access points will be upgraded, and a load test will be conducted before the new infrastructure is opened to traffic.
