Ancap technical staff completed repairs on an oil pipeline at kilometer 89 of the Interbalnearia Highway on Thursday, where an oil leak had been detected the previous Wednesday, the state-owned company reported in a statement. Tests conducted after the repair “were successful,” so normal operations have now been restored, Ancap stated. Even so, following this repair, technicians are continuing with follow-up and monitoring tasks to verify environmental conditions, as well as to support recovery efforts in the area. “Ancap maintains a preventive maintenance schedule for the pipeline at various locations, prioritizing the most sensitive points,” it stated. On Wednesday, Ancap reported that it was working to repair an oil leak that had occurred at the aforementioned location. The leak occurred along the route of the pipeline that transports oil from José Ignacio to the La Teja refinery. According to their explanation, in response to this situation, crude oil pumping to that location was halted, and Ancap technical personnel arrived at the site to contain the leak and carry out necessary tasks. Additionally, the state-owned company notified the Departmental Emergency Coordination Center (Cecoed), as well as the Ministry of the Environment and the Maldonado Municipal Government.
