Что ждет сотрудников муниципальных казино? Решение IMM об их будущем
Montevideo Mayor Mario Bergara stated that employees of the municipal casinos will not be transferred to the General Directorate of Casinos within the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) as part of the transition. In addition, the mayor noted that those currently working in that department will have the option to either retire or take positions in other areas of the Montevideo City Government (IMM). Bergara noted at a press conference that the workers “are already part of the system” because they are city employees and clarified that “they will not be transferred to the Casino Directorate.” In that regard, he indicated that the administration is holding talks with the sector’s unions, which represent about 50 people, to determine the alternatives. According to him, most of the employees are eligible for retirement, so they will have the option to retire, while others will be reassigned to different duties within the municipality, he said in statements reported by Telenoche (Channel 4). "We are in discussions to determine the best course of action. The vast majority of them are eligible for retirement, and others will be assigned to other duties within the Montevideo City Government," Bergara said. National Party Senator Martín Lema submitted a new request for information to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) asking for details on the transfer of the Casino Parque Hotel from the Montevideo City Government (IMM) to the ministry. The nationalist lawmaker explained that last February he had submitted a request for details regarding the transfer of the municipal casino to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF); however, he reported that “no details were provided.” In the response, which El País obtained, the ministry stated that “to date, there are no plans to transfer the departmental staff assigned to that casino to our unit; it will be operated with the unit’s own staff, and we expect to complete the transition in 2026.” Lema told El País that in the new request for information, he asked, “With what staff will the aforementioned casino operate once the transfer to the MEF is complete?” and “Is there a plan to issue new job postings or hire new staff?” and, if so, “Under what terms? And with what budget allocation?” In addition, the Nationalist senator and former candidate for mayor of Montevideo in the last departmental elections asked, “What is the estimated annual cost in terms of human resources for the operation of the casino under the MEF’s jurisdiction?” He also asked, “Has a technical study been conducted on the functional structure necessary for its operation?” “With all the problems in Montevideo, it is incomprehensible how they maintain the municipal casino, which is incurring millions in losses,” noted the Blanco legislator. For Lema, “we cannot continue making announcements without following through,” and “the MEF’s responses reveal a high degree of improvisation in coordination.” “It's unclear whether the plan is to transfer IMM staff or not. Everything seems to indicate that it isn't. Between 2020 and 2023, there were losses totaling 476 million pesos,” he concluded.
