The Montevideo City Government (IMM) confirmed that it has begun the second phase of restoration work on Mauá Park in Montevideo, which was opened to the public in 2025 after being closed for decades. The city government announced that this new phase of construction will focus on improving infrastructure, strengthening the park’s integration with its surroundings, and continuing to revitalize this public space located along the capital’s waterfront promenade. The repair work currently underway is focused on fixing the exterior wall, adding new lighting, improving infrastructure, and restoring two existing structures, according to Marcelo Roux, director of Public Spaces for the Montevideo City Government. One of the two structures will be designated for multipurpose use, while the other building undergoing renovation will be used to provide restrooms and potentially food services for visitors. City officials confirmed that the work will proceed without disrupting the park’s daily operations, as no closures are planned during construction. Since its inauguration in 2025, Mauá Park has served as a recreational space and gathering place for residents along the southern promenade. The site also features a self-guided historical trail that allows visitors to enjoy a walk while learning about the history of Montevideo and the site’s significance to the city.
