Diego Aguirre dismissed reports of an alleged incident between two Peñarol players: “I've heard a lot of lies”

Diego Aguirre, Peñarol’s head coach, spoke at a press conference on Saturday following the team’s 1-0 victory over Albion in the sixth round of the Apertura Tournament and analyzed the team’s overall performance. He also dismissed a supposed incident among players on the first team: “It’s not important because people were saying all sorts of things; sometimes small things get blown out of proportion into stories that don’t exist. I heard a lot of lies being repeated, and some people believe they’re true,” he began. He elaborated: "Situations like that happen all the time—a disagreement or argument, just like in a family or with anyone else—but they’re normal situations. It was exaggerated, and I felt there was malice because lies were told. Something did happen, but that wasn’t the story. It wasn’t a situation to be alarmed about; in a heated game, you can stir up trouble, but since I’ve had plenty of similar situations throughout my career, these are normal things, and we don’t give them any importance.”
