Peñarol finalized the signing of Washington Aguerre, the third Aurinegra signing confirmed for 2026: the details

Editorial Peñarol secured its third signing for the 2026 season with the return of Washington Aguerre. The 32-year-old goalkeeper will once again wear the black and gold jersey after agreeing to a two-season contract, with an option for an additional year, and with the particularity that the club acquired a percentage of his contract, in a strong commitment to security in goal. The return of the Artiguense player comes after intense negotiations between president Ignacio Ruglio and the player's representative Rafael Monge (also a partner in Grupo Pachuca), which were finalized in the last few hours and had the backing of Diego Aguirre, who considered his signing a priority. Aguerre will not continue with Deportivo Independiente Medellín (DIM) in Colombia, where he had an outstanding season and was able to secure his return to Mirasol as a free agent. The goalkeeper had been champion of the 2024 AUF Uruguayan League with Peñarol and, after that very good year, he did not reach an agreement with the club to renew his contract and moved to Colombian soccer due to financial differences. That same point was key in the current negotiations, although this time the parties managed to come closer together. In the 2025 season, playing for DIM, Aguerre played 44 games and kept a clean sheet on 20 occasions, figures that reinforced the Aurinegro's interest. During the 2024 season with Carbonero, he played 36 games and achieved 23 clean sheets, records that the club is looking to regain in order to regain solidity between the posts. Aguerre is third on the list of confirmed signings for Peñarol 2026, alongside Argentine right-back Franco Escobar and striker Facundo Batista.
