The Uruguayan Health Federation will file charges against two former leaders for financial irregularities
The Uruguayan Health Federation (FUS) will file a formal complaint with the courts against its former general secretary, Jorge “Fogata” Bermúdez, and former leader Héctor dos Santos, for alleged financial irregularities. Both had already been expelled by a union assembly last year. The complaint will be filed with the support of the law firm Diego Camaño y Asociados. The union’s decision came after the completion of an audit of the union’s finances between 2020 and 2025. At the Pit-Cnt Congress in May of last year, the FUS, with 135 of the 1,149 delegates, was one of the five most represented unions. It has 32,000 members. Bermúdez led the union for two decades. His critics within the union accused him of failing to account for travel expenses totaling 740,000 pesos. The Pit-Cnt, whose Executive Secretariat included Bermúdez, decided to remove him from his duties at the request of the FUS. He was the head of International Relations for the union federation until last year. He also stepped down from representing the union on the National Health Board.
